Q&A WITH THE STYLE THEORY'S GIRL-POWER DRIVEN LISA ROSADO

We have some exciting news! We'll be a part of The Style Theory's Holiday pop up shop on December 16th which is in support of women owned businesses. Talk about girl power! We spoke to The Style Theory founder, Lisa Rosado, about her blog, career, and the upcoming pop up. This 30 year old New York-bred fashionista has got some serious business savvy to share. 


Where and how did your career start off?
 

While at Pace University majoring in Acting, I needed a part-time job and fashion had always been an interest of mine, so I took on multiple retails jobs. Throughout the span of a couple of years I worked for Club Monaco & Urban Outfitters, when I realized I was yearning for a more intimate experience. From that moment, I took on sales associate positions at boutiques across NYC before working my way up to manager & buyer for a couple of my favorite shops, one of which I worked at for 5 years! 

I was bit by the buying bug, which made me seriously consider starting something of my own.​It’s so funny because I realized last year that the idea of owning a boutique someday actually began well before I was initially aware of. I stumbled upon a journal of mine from High School where I talked about starting a boutique with two of my friends and even sketched a few designs. 

Picking out pretty things that I loved coupled with getting to know my customers & seeing their eyes light up in pieces and outfits I recommended brought me, and still brings me, so much happiness!

It’s all about building & forming connections to me. From the pieces we stock and the brands behind them to the genuine interactions and relationships we’ve formed with our supporters.

As a business owner yourself, how do you stay motivated? 

I LOVE what I do, which absolutely helps in staying motivated, but I will say this: since discovering that I’m insanely passionate about helping & supporting fellow female entrepreneurs & hosting our for-women-by-women pop-up shopping events, I show up 200% knowing I need to make it all happen, not only for myself, but for these women as well. Knowing they are relying on me motivates me to push myself out of my comfort zone because I want them to have the best experience participating in one of our events & I truly want them to succeed!

How do you balance your blogging and writing with your online shop to hosting in-person events?

I’m not sure I believe in balance. What I aim for is to remain as centered as possible throughout whatever life has in store for me personally and within my business.

TST & TSTC has evolved so much within the last few months, in ways I did not imagine just last year, so, in all honesty, I’ve just been rolling with the punches and creating magic at the drop of the hat. While it can be anxiety inducing at times, I find that I get -ish done when it’s crunch time.

What I hope to implement in 2018: MUCH more planning and scheduling my personal life and business in seasons. This method is so appealing to me because I can better plan where my energy will be spent and what work needs to get done before entering the next season.

We’re already filling up our content & event calendar for 2018. It feels really good to feel so much more organized and ahead of them. My mind already feels clearer.

I also have an amazing assistant (Hey, Briana!) and since taking her on and with all of her support, we’ve been working much more efficiently whether it be putting together blog posts, scheduling social posts or scouting vendors and sponsors for our events (and everything in between!)

What made you decide to venture out from blogging and your online shop to hosting in-person events?

Discovering the power of sisterhood and how much I desired to help out other small business owners. I felt very alone working on the blog & online shop from home. It was super isolating.

Then there is the fact that the online marketplace is completely saturated, so creating a brand that will stand out from the masses is a big undertaking. Hosting in-person events are essential for brands that are primarily online, but can be super costly…especially in a major city.

Hosting a collective pop-up event makes it much more accessible and you have the perk of joining forces with other kick-ass babes in business! I firmly believe we can do it all, but we can’t do it alone!

What can pop up shop goers expect at the event on the 16th?

Major girl power power vibes! A day of shopping, sisterhood & holiday cheer! We have some amazing women-owned businesses in the retail space participating as vendors (including Social Decay! we’re so pumped!).
